All this started more than three years ago. She was working on a side research project that dated back years prior to that. Along the way, some of her students placed a compound Monroe now calls CancerX on human cancer cells in a petri dish. Oddly, it killed the cells. It wasn’t the outcome she had expected. So, they tried again. Same result. Then again. These were good students, but surely they’d messed up the experiment, she thought. “I thought everyone was incompetent,” Monroe said. So, she did it herself. The cancer cells died. “So, I’m starting to think maybe there’s something to this,” she recalled. Leukemia, breast, skin, renal, brain and prostate cancer cells — they all died.
